More on FAQ #402

Question #402 is an allusion to the choice that routinely must be made between optimizing “appearance” vs. optimizing “trustworthiness.”

  • 402. What if for my own photography “the appearance of the final image” is more important than the picture's “trustworthiness”?

That’s fine; it just means TTG is not for you.

Use of TTG is always completely voluntary and optional.

The TTG label can be credibly attached only to one's own photographs, never to some else's, meaning that photographers who have no need for TTG can just ignore it.

  • TTG is not for everyone

TTG was never meant for every photographer or every photograph.

It is not at all suited to the many sectors of the world of images where “trustworthiness” is not as important as “appearance.”

(Many of those kinds of images are now being created using some AIFI, which instantly disqualifies an image from TTG.)

  • There's no pressure or urgency; TTG will always be there

    • Any photographer who decides that TTG isn’t suited for them never need bother with it; no one else will be affected by that decision.

    • Most photographers make both TTG and non-TTG photographs.

    • Since the TTG label is easily applied to (and left off of) individual photographs, “TTG-vs.-non-TTG” never has to be an all-or-nothing choice for any photographer. It's fine to label some of one's own published images but not others.

    • No photographer has to commit one way or the other for life. TTG will always be there, so a photographer who has no use for TTG now can always start using it sometime in the future.
