opt-in vs. opt-out

Use of TTG is always completely voluntary and optional. Photographers use TTG only if they choose to do so.

Thus TTG is considered an “opt-in” system.

“Opt-in” system:

The default is to be excluded unless one opts in.

No participants will be “in on” a particular behavior unless they choose to be included (i.e., they “opt in” for special treatment).

An example of “opt-in” would be a retailer’s website that says, “We will not send you any promotional emails unless you ask to receive them.”

Opt-out” system:

the default is to be included unless one opts out.

All participants are “in on” the assigned default unless they choose to be excluded (i.e., they “opt out” for special treatment).

An example of “opt-out” would be a retailer’s website that says, “We will send you promotional emails unless you ask not to receive them.”

TTG follows the “opt-in” model.

No one ever need use the TTG label — or to change anything about their own photography in light of TTG — unless they choose to.

Why not label photographs that ARE doctored instead of photos that are not doctored?
