Allowable Change #6
Cropping (“decreasing Canvas Size”)

A. As per rinairs, cropping of TTG photos is limited to the “straight-edged” removal of picture area, and the edges must be hard-edged (not feathered).

B. “Cutout” backgrounds always disqualify a photograph from rinairs, from P7, and from TTG. But “blown-out” backgrounds (over- or underexposed so that detail is lost) can be eligible for TTG.

C. Cropping an image to a shape that is not a rectangle or square always disqalifies a photograph from rinairs, from P7, and from TTG.

{#855: What about photos that were recorded as round because the recording area was larger than the image circle? }

D. Respected news agencies do not misrepresentatively crop photographs and then try to explain away any deceptions. Thus if a photograph is misrepresentatively cropped as judged by rinairs, that photo cannot meet P7 and is disqualified from TTG regardless of how it is explained.
