Bokeh

For the handling of “bokeh” in TTG photographs, see the guide to focus and bokeh blur

What exactly is meant by the term “bokeh”?

• Traditionally the term “bokeh” was often used when referring to the aesthetic qualities of the out-of-focus blur in photographs.

• More recently, however, smartphone marketers have popularized use of the term “bokeh” to cover all references to the blurry out-of-focus-appearing areas of the image.

Since the #2 usage (“the blurry out-of-focus-appearing areas of the image”) is now the public norm, that is the way the term is used on this website.
