focus maximization

“Focus maximization” (required by P3) is the depiction of everything as “in focus” as can be based on the exposure(s) used to make the image.

TTG’s requirement of focus maximization disqualifies any process — including added “bokeh” blur, or fauxkeh — that renders as “out of focus” any parts of the scene that were recorded as “in focus” in any exposure(s) used to create the photograph.

Maximizing focus is usually a simple matter for photographers who let their device automatically combine exposures: the TTG photographer simply selects whichever option has the most “depth of field” (that is, the deepest range of focus, from near to far).

Undoing any “Portrait mode” blur effects on a smartphone usually just involves moving the slider to the highest-number “aperture” available.
